This month we will be featuring some books by Illustrator Michael White. Mr. White will be visiting our school in April.

Use various sources (encyclopedias, atlases, thesauri, newspapers, dictionary, books, online resources) to answer information questions. Students will take an imaginary trip to the outbacks as they prepare for Reference Survivor. yes that's right, this lesson will revolve around the T.V. show "Survivor" with the soundtrack and all.

Recognize award winning books (Caldecott, Newbery, Georgia Picture Books etc)/Draw conclusions and make predictions and comparisons. Rita Lott will be the host for 1st grade at the "Engineering Excellent Awards." This lesson will include reading two stories and incorporating our SIP goal of reading/writing in that students will get to choose which of the 2 books they would give an award to and why. Students will learn at the end of the month if the book they chose is the actual "award winning book."

Develop listening skills through read out louds/Experience a variety of literary forms. I will be sharing the nonfiction book "The Legend of the Teddy Bear." Students will enjoy the story with their own "beary special friend."

Kindergarten - Mother Goose will make an appearance to teach rhymes and main characters.
1st Grade - Who Let the Dogs Will be our theme as we explore fiction and facts in text.
2nd Grade - Betsy Ross will be the presenter in an introduction to Biography Books.

Experience traditional and contemporary literature through a variety of media. Our kindergartners will experience the traditional story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and a more contemporary version. The lesson may also include a third version if time permits.
